Instructional Updates from 3/25/2020

Middle School Update (3/25/2020) - The Plan for 3/30/2020 through 4/03/2020

Please be aware that this plan may be adjusted based on updates received from our state and district officials.

Educational Opportunities

  • Educators will be preparing a combination of physical and digital materials to work on from home.

  • Printed materials will be available for pick up on Monday, March 30 and Tuesday, March 31 at Desert View Intermediate from 8:30am-12:30pm. This includes the math book that students will be using for their supplemental math support. This is the plan for the week of March 30 only.

  • Digital lessons and materials will be posted to Google Classroom by 8:00 AM Monday morning

Educator Availability for Students

  • Monday - Educators will be ensuring that all educational opportunities are available on Google Classroom by 8:00 AM and that all print materials are ready to be handed out at Desert View.

  • Tuesday through Friday 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM - Digital Office Hours. Educators will be available for students through Google Classroom, email or phone to answer any students' questions or address specific student concerns regarding the material sent home. Parents/guardians, please do not attempt to contact teachers during this time as this time is set aside for student access to teachers only.

Guidance for Families and Students

  • Set up a regular schedule and stick to it. Students are more successful when they have a consistent routine.

  • Our current educational opportunities require students to hold themselves accountable for completing the reviews and developing a plan for how to complete associated tasks and challenges. Ultimately, this self-pacing skill is important for students to develop and learn. As they will undoubtedly need help developing this skill, parents/guardians can help by keeping track of their students' demonstrations of past learning.

  • Support your students by asking them questions about how they are holding themselves accountable as they learn how to take ownership of their learning. Give them the structure, guidance, and support needed to be successful.

Distrist Update (3/25/2020)

Dr. Varner has released a letter regarding instructional opportunities for your students during the Corvid 19 closure. The letter can be accessed through the images in this post or through this link.

Week of 3/23/2020

At some point this week, your student's first-hour teacher will be contacting them over email, phone, or Google Classroom to check-in with them. Be looking for this contact from their teacher (for the most part these should be completed by Thursday).

Note: If educators are planning to contact your student via phone, their number on the caller ID will most likely show up as unavailable so please take this call (if it is a telemarketer, you are more than welcome to hang-up).
